Morocco has improved its ranking in terms of doping risk, with the Athletics Integrity Unit, upgrading from category A consisting of countries with the highest doping risk, to category B, the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency (AMAD) announced on Wednesday.
“The Athletics Integrity Unit announced at the start of 2025 that Morocco has been reclassified from category A (countries with the highest risk of doping) to category B. Moroccan athletics has been ranked in category A since March 5, 2020”, AMAD said in a press release.
“This upgrade of Moroccan athletics is the crowning achievement of efforts made by the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency (AMAD),” the statement adds.
Since its creation, this unit “has set up a national anti-doping program for Moroccan sport and more specifically for the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation, in accordance with Article 15.2.3 of the World Athletics anti-doping rules and in compliance with Moroccan legislation 97-12 relating to the fight against doping in sport”, the same source points out.
AMAD explains that countries ranked in category A are subject to highly restrictive requirements concerning both the number of tests to be carried out prior to participation in international events and education programs.
“In this regard, at the 18th World Athletics Championships Eugene 2022, 19th World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023, and Olympic Games Paris 2024, an average of 4.93; 5.4 and 8 tests per athlete respectively was conducted, ranking Morocco 4th worldwide,” the press release notes.
