Morocco to face Comoros, Zambia, and Mali in AFCON 2025

Morocco has been placed in Group A and will face Comoros, Zambia, and Mali, according to the draw held today at the Mohammed V Theater in Rabat.

During the ceremony, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, delivered a speech of unity and passion between Morocco and Africa, expressing his pride in hosting such a major event.

“We are proud to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and we embrace this challenge with great seriousness. The organization of this competition is closely followed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who attaches great importance to sports activities and the African dimension they represent. It is a sustainable continuation of Morocco’s cooperation with the African continent. We have written many chapters of collaboration together,” he said.

Natual team coach, Walid Regragui said Morocco will host the best AFCON in history.

“We are fortunate to have the opportunity to organize it here, with the best fans in the world. We will need the players, but I have no doubts about the organization—we will have the best Africa Cup of Nations in history,” he said with enthusiasm.

Morocco was chosen as the host country on September 27, 2023. Since then, various projects have been launched, particularly regarding the renovation of the stadiums that will host the tournament, with the aim of making the 2025 edition the most successful in AFCON history, the second oldest continental competition after the Copa America.

Reconstruction work has included the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat (which has been completely renovated), the large stadiums in Tangier, Agadir, and Marrakesh, as well as the Fes Sports Complex.

The Kingdom has hosted the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN), the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, and the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup.
