The renowned Moroccan singer Naïma Samih passed away in the night from Friday to Saturday, according to her close ones. Born in Casablanca, she was one of the most iconic voices in modern Moroccan music, leaving a lasting impact on Arabic music with a rich and diverse repertoire.
Naïma Samih began her career at a young age and gained recognition in the 1970s through the television show “Mawaheb,” hosted by the composer Abdenbi Jirari. Her varied repertoire included sentimental, patriotic, and religious songs, and she collaborated with prominent artists such as Abdelkader Rachdi, Ahmed Alaoui, and Ali Haddani.
Among her most famous songs are “Jrit W Jarit,” “Yak A Jarhi,” “Kif Lmaani,” and “LBhara,” tracks that continue to be sung and cherished across the Arab world. Naïma Samih also made history as the first Moroccan singer and the third Arab artist to perform at the famous Olympia in Paris, following the legendary Oum Kalthoum and Fairouz.
