the Ministry of Equipment and Water has issued a strong recommendation for all road users to exercise extreme caution and plan their travel accordingly, following a weather warning issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology.
The warning covers the period between March 7th and 10th, 2025, indicating significant weather disturbances across several regions.
A statement released by the ministry detailed that the General Directorate of Meteorology forecasts heavy snowfall in mountainous areas exceeding 1500 meters in altitude, with accumulations ranging from 25 to 60 centimeters.
The affected provinces include Ifrane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Midelt, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Guercif, Sefrou, Taza, Boulemane, Khenifra, Al Haouz, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Chichaoua, and Taroudant.
The warning includes predictions of heavy thunderstorms accompanied by hail, with rainfall amounts ranging from 25 to 130 millimeters, hitting the provinces of Tangier-Assilah, Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Larache, Fahs-Anjra, Al Hoceima, M’diq-Fnideq, Ouezzane, Kenitra, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Taza, Ifrane, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Khenifra, Essaouira, Safi, Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane, Taroudant, and Khemisset.
Strong winds and dust storms are also expected in the provinces of Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Assilah, Larache, Tetouan, M’diq-Fnideq, Guercif, Sefrou, Ifrane, Boulemane, El Hajeb, Taza, Meknes, Kenitra, Khemisset, Rabat, Skhirat-Temara, Salé, Benslimane, Mediouna, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Berrechid, Settat, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, Casablanca, Youssoufia, Marrakech, Essaouira, Chichaoua, Rhamna, Safi, Ouarzazate, Taourirt, Figuig, Jerada, Zagora, Tinghir, Midelt, Errachidia and Tata, starting from the night of Friday, March 7th, until Monday, March 10th, 2025.
These conditions may cause disruptions to traffic flow on road networks within these regions. Given that this period coincides with a weekend, the Ministry urges all road users to postpone travel to, from, or through the aforementioned provinces unless absolutely necessary.
The ministry also recommends avoiding nighttime travel and preparing vehicles adequately, including checking tire pressure, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, washer fluid, fuel levels, and air conditioning systems.
The ministry also emphasized the importance of vigilance, especially on roads prone to flooding, such as low-lying areas and river crossings.
It is crucial to avoid attempting to cross flooded areas, refrain from speeding, avoid sudden maneuvers, and maintain a safe following distance.
